Pestilent Vagrants

By Christopher Rupley

The frozen sand and crushed rock,

this tidal wave of tangible

pavement built by capable hands

more competent than my own,

laid bare the foundations

for a cracking,

decaying world

And the gutless comedians

that litter the mezzanine with

old coffee cups and gum wrappers –

stealing away the innocence of

gravel lanes and

blanketing their tears with the

muck and dregs they themselves harbor –

just disappear into obscurity…
