(This is a Bussokusekika, and it stems from a group of Japanese forms of poetry called Waka. The syllable count is 5-7-5-7-7-7. I enjoyed toying with alternate tenses during this poem a bit too much).

We’ve Been Expecting You

The retrofitted
whifflers saw their pawns market
ataraxia –
dissent on canvases spread
under every dark
ridge, and blasted light outside 

the marionettes
housing cancerous grandstands,
rapist clergy, and vendors…
